My name is Debbie Aiman. I’m running for re-election to the Hickman Mills School Board (CSD1) this year. I have been a member of the board of directors for the last three years. I originally ran in an effort to keep good teachers. That has not changed. The challenges have been great. As a certified teacher, I am the only member of the board to have taught in the elementary classroom. I spent twelve years in the Kansas City, Mo School District at North Rock Creek / Korte, Academy of Environmental Sciences. In 2006, I spent a year in a fifth grade classroom in the Hickman Mills School District. I learned why we have such a high turn over of teachers first hand. I understand the needs within the classroom. I can empathize with the challenges our teachers face everyday.
As a single mother of five, I understand the challenges for parents in our current economy. Having sixteen grandchildren, I want the best for not only my children, but all children. There is no better place to start, than right here.
I left the Kansas City School District in 1999 to start my own business, A Sweet Expression. It has been a love of mine. A Sweet Expression supplies custom made candy and cookie bouquets for delivery through out the Kansas City, Metro area. I still do today.
I want to continue to work hard to save our district. Our test scores are poor. We are a district at risk. Financially, we are struggling. I will continue to vote against measures that I do not feel are in our best interest. I support collective bargaining and the rights of our employees. I will also continue to fight against complacency. I would appreciate your support. As I have learned, one person can make a difference. You can make a difference. You just need to be heard. I am willing and able to listen.
